Christian Contemporary Music Survey

Hey, so I think I'm going to write some articles on this. I don't know how many people actually look at my blog, but yeah...

What I need to know is what the main points of Christian rock critics have? So far I know a couple, but I think I've missed some.

-Be separate from the world(shouldn't identify with the world)
-The beat(the beat is unholy, and derived from(african headhunter communication(or something like that))
-The genre: some genres are not redeemable.
-There are better things to listen to.
-Most Christian contemporary artists do not mention the name of "Jesus" in their songs.

Am I missing some or should I refine some?

the way it makes you feel
(subjective but with some truth to it)

yeah drums came from tribal worship kind of things?

The last one isn't really true and I haven't really heard it but maybe you have.

A lot of Christian music is shallow. You can't deny it. You just can't really blanket statement the whole thing.

Either way.

Yeah...

Well that's what I'm going to write about :)

Yeah, I've heard arguments where they say "that song isn't Christian-it doesn't mention Jesus at all!"

For sure...

Or they sing about Jesus like he is no longer God, but your boyfriend our girlfriend. You just get a lovesong and put the name Jesus in it. This is common of contemporary Christian.

I've never heard the last. But whatever.

Where my bro. is in College, this is a very common arguement. Many people for this reason do not like contemporary Christian. Contemporary Christian seems to involve a whole wrong understanding of God.

I would have to agree with Nathan here, this is true for a lot of contemporary christian music.

However, like I said, you can't blanket statement it, because I know of bands that I totally love that have a great respect for God and His holiness.

Couple of us were looking at a website where they said that "Draw Me Close" was really a secular song.

Draw me close to You
Never let me go
I lay it all down again
To hear You say that I'm Your friend

You are my desire
No one else will do
Cause nothing else could take Your place
To feel the warmth of Your embrace

Help me find the way, bring me back to You

You're all I want
You're all I've ever needed
You're all I want
Help me know You are near

I think they did the reverse of what you're saying... Where God is clearly the subject matter, they said this is a worldly song because it's talking about a girl.

That's the problem, it is a so-so song, you cannot tell whether it is talking about God or your girlfriend.
That's the big problem, nowadays, God sounds to much like a girlfriend, or boyfriend. People make an idol of Him, they make Him in their own image. God does not receive the proper glory.
